Zithromax is a azithromycin-based semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic used for treatment of infections of upper and low respiratory tract (pneumonia, tonsillitis, sinusitis); ear infections (otitis); urogenital infections (prostatitis, cervicitis, urethritis, adnexitis caused by chlamydia, gonorrhea, early syphilis); intestinal infections, stomach and duodenum ulcer.
Its mechanism of action lies in inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis and prevention them from bacteria from growth; it proves effective against such Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms as Bacteroides fragilis, Chlamidia trachomati, Haemophilus influenzae and parainfluenzae, Staphylococcus (S. agalactiae, S. pneumoiane, S. aureus and S. pyogenes), Escherichia coli, Bordetella ssp, Moraxela catarrhalis, Nisseria gonorrhoeae, Haemophilus ducreuim, and Borrelia burgdorferi. Zythromax can also be prescribed for treatment of Helicobacter pylori, Ureaplasma urealiticum, Legionella pneumophila, Mycoplasma pneumonia, Mycoplasma hominis, and Toxoplasma gondii.
Side effects of Zythromax might include:
• jaundice;
• headache;
• dark urine, clay-colored or loose stools;
• diarrhea;
• nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting;
• loss of appetite;
• tachycardia;
• fever;
• rash or skin redness.
To decrease the risk of developing side effects, it is required that your doctor authorized treatment with Zythromax if you:

• are taking other medications, especially antacids containing aluminum or magnesium.
