Prevacid is a lansoprazole-based medication used for treatment of certain stomach bacteria infections, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, erosive esophagitis caused by excessive stomach acid production and preventing stomach and intestinal ulcers including those caused by NSAIDs. It works by decreasing the amount of acid produced in the stomach.
Side effects of Prevacid might include:
• jaundice;
• blistering of skin, peeling or rash;
• diarrhea or constipation;
• nausea, stomach pain, vomiting;
• fever or sore throat;
• dark yellow or brown urine;
• fever or sore throat;
• headache.
To decrease the risk of developing side effects, it is required that your doctor authorized treatment with Prevacid if you:
• are pregnant, breast-feeding or planning to have a baby;
• are hypersensitive or allergic to lansoprazole or any other substances;
• are a smoker or a regular user of alcohol or caffeine-containing drinks or food;
• are taking herbal/dietary supplements or other prescription/non-prescription medications, especially for treatment of fungus/yeast infections or those containing ketoconazole, voriconazole, itraconazole, theophylline, digoxin, ampicillin, atazanavir, delavirdine, sucralfate, iron salts, warfarin;
• suffer from or have a history of liver disorders.
Symptoms of Prevacid overdose are unknown; however, if there is a possibility you have taken an extra or double dose, seek medical attention immediately.
