Periactin is an antihistamine drug that helps to reduce spasms. It is prescribed for allergic syndromes of various nature, as well as for loss of appetite which may be caused by anorexia or chronic diseases.
Method of application and dosage. The medication is administered orally: adult patients need to take 1 tablet (4 mg) 3 - 4 times a day. Children are given the drug in smaller doses, depending on age. At the age of 6 months to 2 years, prescribed with caution in a daily dose of 0, 4 mg/kg. At the age of 2 to 6 years, up to 6 mg per day is prescribed (1/2 tablet 3 times a day). At the age of 6 to 14 years old - up to 12 mg per day is prescribed (1 tablet 3 times a day). There is a limit on the daily Periactin dosage, which should not exceed 32 mg in adults, 8 mg in children aged 2–6 years, and 12 mg in age from 6–14 years.
Warnings:
The drug is prohibited to apply to patients with glaucoma.
It is prohibited to use with a stomach ulcer.
The Periactin medication is prohibited to use in attacks of bronchial asthma.
It is prohibited to use during pregnancy, there’s no information about consequences during lactation.
It is not prescribed to children under the age of 2 years and the elderly.
The drug can cause a feeling of drowsiness, so you must give up driving or difficult work with the mechanisms.
Periactin side effects may include:
drowsiness and dizziness;
dry mouth, nose, or throat;
constipation;
blurred vision;
the feeling of sudden anxiety or agitation (this effect is observed especially in children).
