Norvasc is an amlodipine-based calcium channel blocker used for treatment of hypertension, ischemic heart disease and angina pectoris. It works by blocking channels of L-type in a vascular wall, myocard and cells of conducting and contractile systems of myocardium; it also lowers vessels tone by blocking Ca+ ions transfer through membrane and therefore, lowers arterial pressure.
Side effects of Norvasc might include:
• jaundice;
• easy bruising or bleeding;
• swollen hands, ankles or feet;
• chest pain;
• tachycardia;
• edema of lower extremities;
• weakness, numbness, burning or regular pain, sometimes tingly feeling in the body;
• headache.
To decrease the risk of developing side effects, it is required that your doctor authorized treatment with Norvasc if you:
• are under 18;
• are pregnant or breastfeeding;
• suffer from or have a history of congestive or chronic heart failure, cardiogenic shock, arterial hypotension, diabetes, lipid metabolism disorders, liver failure;
• are allergic or hypersensitive to amlodipine;
• are taking other NSAIDS, estrogens, diuretics or medications containing A2+ or lithium.
Avoid alcoholic beverages during treatment with Norvasc.
Symptoms of Norvasc overdose are: severe dizziness, fainting or tingly feeling in the body. If there is a possibility you have taken an extra or double dose, seek medical attention immediately.
