Diflucan is a fluconazole-based anti-fungal antibiotic used for treatment of fungal infections (i.e. candidiasis) that include throat, urinary tract, vaginal infections, pneumonia and peritonitis. It works by interfering with the formation of fungi cell membrane and killing fluconazole-sensitive fungi.
Side effects of Diflucan might include:
• change of taste or unusual taste in the mouth;
• headache, dizziness, unusual weakness, fever or chills;
• sometimes flu symptoms;
• nausea, stomach pain, upset stomach, loss of appetite;
• jaundice, clay-colored stools, dark urine;
• allergy symptoms, e.g. difficulty breathing, hives, skin rash, itching or peeling; swollen face, lips, throat or tongue;
• seizures.
To decrease the risk of developing side effects, it is required that your doctor authorized treatment with Diflucan if you:
• are taking medications containing cyclosporine, ketoconazole, glipizide, warfarin, tolbutamide, glyburide, chlorpropamide, tolazamide, diazepam, alprazolam, midazolam, lorazepam, rifampin, rifabutin, phenytoin, valproic acid, theophylline, tacrolimus due to their ability to interact with Diflucan;
• are allergic or hypersensitive to fluconazole or any other anti-fungal azole medications, such as itraconazole or clotrimazole;
• are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to have a baby;
• suffer from or have a history of heart/vessels/liver/kidney conditions, heart rate or rhythm disorders, low level of potassium, calcium or magnesium in blood.
It is necessary to limit alcohol intake during treatment with Diflucan.
Overdose may be dangerous because it can cause confusion, unusual thoughts or behavior; if there is a possibility you have taken an extra or double dose of Diflucan and then developed those symptoms in a severe form, report this to your doctor.
