Cytotec is a misoprostol-based medication used for prevention of stomach ulcers formation in patients treated by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, arthritis or pain medications, e.g. aspirin or ibuprofen, which are known to destruct natural barriers of the stomach. Misoprostol is a synthetic prostaglandin, i.e. the same substance as that produced by stomach naturally; it protects inner layers of stomach from destructive action of NSAIDs by replacing the destroyed substance. Cytotec also has anti-acidic effect.
Side effects of Cytotec might include:
• abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting;
• drowsiness, rash, hypotension or hypertension, headache, menstrual cramps, and flatulence.
To decrease the risk of developing serious side effects, it is required that your doctor authorized treatment with Cytotec if you:
• suffer from renal impairment or inflammatory bowel disease;
• are already taking magnesium-containing antacids;
• are under 18;
• are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Overdose of Cytotec may cause:
• difficulty breathing;
• drowsiness;
• tremor;
• diarrhea;

• irregular heartbeat;
• seizures;
• fever.
