Baclofen is used for treatment of muscle clonus, spasm of skeletal muscles, cramping of muscles, rigid muscles, spinal cord injury and pain caused by disorders such as multiple sclerosis. It works as CNS depressant and skeletal muscle relaxant.
Its side effects may include:
• vomiting;
• low blood pressure;
• allergic reactions (itching, hives, swelling);
• constipation;
• urination issues (increased frequency or retention);
• seizures;
• confusion;
• chest pain;
• hallucinations;
• respiratory depression;
• insomnia.
To decrease the risk of developing side effects, it is required that your doctor authorized treatment with Baclofen if you:
• are already taking sleeping pills; pain relief medications like tramadol, codeine or oxycodone; anti-depression or anti-anxiety drugs or medications containing phenobarbital, propoxyphene, monoamine oxidase inhibitors or antihistamines;
• suffer from kidney conditions, diabetes, blood clotting, or had seizures (epilepsy) or a stroke before;
• are allergic to Baclofen or any other medications, foods or preservatives;
• are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to have a baby.
Baclofen is known to interact with alcohol and cause drowsiness or dizziness in the beginning of treatment; avoid operating machines or driving until you are sure of the effect it has on you.
Overdose of Baclofen may be dangerous; if there is a possibility you have taken an extra or double dose, seek medical attention immediately.
