Apcalis SX is used to treat male erectile dysfunction, its action based on improving natural response to stimulation. It increases blood flow to the penis, similar to when a man is sexually stimulated; in both cases the amount of blood flowing in increases while the amount of blood flowing out decreases significantly, which causes enlargement of vessels in penis and results in stable erection.
It is recommended to talk to your doctor before treatment as combination of Apcalis SX with nitroglycerine containing drugs (e.g. those for chest pain due to heart disease) can cause blood pressure swings, which makes it potentially dangerous. However, nitroglycerine may be found in many other drugs so talking to your doctor will help you understand if it is safe for you to take this particular medication. Taking some protease inhibitors requires correction of your daily dose; you may also be advised by your doctor not to use Apcalis SX at all if you are allergic to some of its components.
Side effects may include:
• vision or hearing impairment;
• pain or discomfort in your chest, which might be classified as a sign of heart attack, especially if it is irradiating to your arm or shoulder;
• joint swelling;
• irregular heartbeat;
• nausea;
• painful erection that lasts for 4+ hours.
If you notice any of those, stop taking Apcalis SX and talk to your doctor.
Less serious side effects may include:
• increased blood flow to your face causing facial redness;
• nasal congestion;
• headache;
• upset stomach;
• back pain, etc.
If any of those are disturbing, they must be discussed with your doctor as well.
You may only take an extra dose if for some reason you missed the previous one; however, do not take it less than 4 to 5 hours before the next dose: just continue with your normal schedule to avoid any side effects and get the best result. For the same reason it is not recommended to combine the medication with large doses of alcohol as it is known to impair the ability to get an erection in general.
